Alpha Update 1.3


Hello, new patch time! This update gets most of the fall working the way it's supposed to, with only a few things left to add - but it's in a much better state now. I've included a couple more events for Ellie + Scout, as well as more unlockable skills on their trees. There are new combat actions (quick-use items), new evening actions (close the inn and hang out with your companions), new music + SFX, and a handful of other inclusions.

Next patch will again focus on the companions and fall gameplay. Should be a sizeable chunk of content now that I don't need to focus as hard on getting the systems working.

A few other things:

I've had a few people ask about translations - and I've got good news on that front, we'll be supporting additional languages on launch. I don't have an exact list of languages yet, but more on that in the future.

Patreon + Discord:

I've had more than a few requests to put up a patreon + discord server. Good news, both are set up and will be launching in the near future. I'll make a post here when they are ready!

1.3 Patch Notes

Added

-New Music Track for game

-Random Music now plays on main menu

-The Army guests have more interactions.

-New afternoon action, barter with passing soldiers for booze, materials, and monster loot.

-You can now close the inn in the evening, spending time with your companions. Starting with when the army shows up, you can choose to close the inn early each night.

  • Once the fall gets underway, you will also have the option to spend time with companions if there are no guests.
  • Gain experience + build affinity with Scout and Ellie.

-New loot type, old stories. These can be found in the library

-New combat actions: Item belt. Once per turn you can use an item from your item belt as a free action.

  • Calming tonic. Removes 30 points of fracture from Lucy. (blood vials for scout coming soon)
  • Acid flask - inflicts rend (-1 physical defense) on an enemy
  • Antidote - clear the poisoned condition
  • Wound Glue - clear the bleeding condition

-Calming tonics, acid flasks, antidotes, and wound glue can all be brewed by Lucy.

-New Companion Events.

-Scout's max affinity can be increased up to 300 (along with newly accessible skills on her companion page).

-Ellie's max affinity can be increased up to 200 (along with newly accessible skills on her companion page).

-Some new art.

Thanks for the update! I had a fun time exploring the new features. 

I liked the new army additions. The variety  of interactions with the army guests is really nice. The unique reputation options are great, and I'm glad that there is now a reason to stockpile some teas and gifts for them. The afternoon trading with the army is a welcome addition that I used frequently this time, and I especially appreciate their willingness to sell booze throughout the week.

My favorite inclusion in the update is the option to close the inn early. I loved the new art of Scout, Lucy and Ellie sitting around the table together. Being able to gain affinity and interest with Scout and Ellie at the cost of no patrons is a cool tradeoff. I hope you expand this more and add unique dialogue or text for all the options similar to how Lucy has different random dialogue for "chat about nothing in particular." I would enjoy seeing something like Scout cheating Ellie at dice, or a drink-off between everyone.

Besides that, the new events with Scout and Ellie were fun. I'm glad the 3rd keg is available again. I didn't play around much with the new items, but being able to cure bleed and poison outside of the recovery skill is great. The calming tonics (and future blood vials) are are something that I am sure to use when I eventually start over again in the future.

 I encountered two small potential bugs this version. First is about Ellie's skill and studying late at night. Each study session with her skill purchased only takes 10 stamina. When I was trying to max out all the research notes the game wouldn't let me continue reading when I had above 10 but below 20 stamina. I don't know if this is intended to work exactly like this or if the skill in this interaction is bugged.

The other thing involves trading with the army for monster drops. I only got fractured remains when trading them. The tool-tip in game mentions random loot, and the patch notes just say monster loot. I don't know if it is bad luck, bugged, or if I am misreading something. Is getting something besides fractured remains really rare?

Anyways, thanks again for this update. I'm excited to see where things go from here.

I will definitely be expanding on the group interactions with the companions. I have a lot of fun ideas for how to make that more interesting, and I want to have the companions interact with each other more. Having more scenes between them is in the pipeline.

I'll take a look at the bugs, thanks for pointing them out. The soldiers should be trading random loot each time, I'll take a look and make sure something didn't break. There will be more things to trade with the soldiers soon as well.
