I tried the winter start and it's rough, not being able to get to level 20 to get stats above 200, not starting with enough gold to get forge early enough for winter because you need gear upgrades cause axe with 200 stats is not great vs the new enemy that seemed to spawn 80/90% of the time at least for me, but we managed, the worst thing though is probably is having to go through all of Lucy's dialog again such as the dialog about undeads after defeating a skeleton even though Scout is already in her romance progression, or when you talk to her about her options such as her interests, beasts, or how she became a mage to name a few, but I dunno, these were just things I found annoying, being half way into winter with rarely anyone to visit the inn making it hard to earn money for upgrades or even to get the forge. It felt really bad when the dwarves would show up and offer meterials but I have no use for them cause the forge was several upgrades away. Started in Fall and had the forge and all stats at 300 with a fully upgraded katana and 2 upgrades of the armor after plate.

Yeah the winter is also missing a ton of its content. The start is there for people that wanna jump straight to it, but it's not the intended way of getting there. It'll feel better as more systems come online.

After extracted the the latest version, I found out that all of my  autosave files from the previous version (1.81) is gone, I always kept 2 versions of the latest and the previous so I checked it just in case but is gone too, so I think there might be a files clash or something like that.

I guess there's nothing that we can do about my save files at this point, but I will really appreciate if you focus on the save mechanics as soon as possible.

(Sorry for my bad English, I'm not a native speaker so please forgive me if there's any grammar mistakes)

Sorry to hear about the lost saves, for the future: saves are kept in AppData\Roaming\ForestInn if you need to back them up.

I have manual saves working in the code, but manual loads cause a huge number of bugs as is. I need to completely rewrite the core of the game to get them working (which is fine, I'm willing to do that, but it's a big time investment).

I'll put some time towards it this week, but because of the complexity of the issue, no promises on when it'll come out. It's one of many things getting worked on.

i like the game so far, it's going in the right direction for sure. its a bit grindy at times but pretty good overall. and updates are great and rolling all the time. would like an android version as i think it is perfect for that. controls are simple enough for a phone. hopefully development is the the same. thank you.

I love the concept and vibes, its just hard when you can never keep the inn in good condition cause you never get guests, have had two weeks of merchants coming and i can do nothing as guests never show up and i have no way of earning money outside of them

(1 edit)

Your inn condition doesnt effect whether or guests show up, just how much they pay. Your inn level + reputation play a bigger role. Once you get the inn restored a bit you'll have steadier business. The early game is intended to be a bit slow, but it's far from perfect balance and will get smoother with time. Better tutorials are on the way as well.

(1 edit)

Can barely even play it, game keeps saying its "not responding"

What platform are you running on? I've got the game running on a variety of windows hardware, including some pretty old machines.

Are there plans to make builds for other platforms, such as Linux?

(1 edit)

With no way to test the other platforms, I have no current plans. Once I get a little closer to release I'll re-evaluate. SteamOS is likely going to pretty straightforward to test.

Overall, a game so excellent I subbed on patreon after the first run-through. Honestly love this style of games, wasn't even here for the erotica (although for those curious reading comments, its pretty solid too). Anyways, long and slightly rambling feedback/concept post below so if you are just a player coming by no need to read further - play this game.

That all said, I did want to bring up a proposal/concept for what I think is one of the few "underwhelming" things with the game atm: Patrolling the woods, and its inherent RNG nature. Namely, the fact its possible (if not common at low presence) for it to flat out be *Nothing*. For a game with cool events, an enchanting atmosphere, lovely NPC encounters, and fights to be had - it honestly feels hard to believe to the point of immersion breaking that you could possibly patrol for half a day and find NOTHING of interest you know? Also once on-demand save/load arrives there would be little reason to accept a "nothing" outcome.

Therefore, I'd like to propose an idea: Unlockable Patrol types - Standard, Exploring, Hunting to choose under the "Patrol the woods" option.

Standard is as is - risk of nothing included but also a good balance if you aren't quite sure what you are looking for. Could maybe even come with a slight calming effect if nothing else happens as a consolation? It'd be what you start the game with naturally since you are still familiarizing yourself.

"Exploring" would heavily weight towards events by contributing much of the odds of "nothing"/fights towards an event, but in exchange IF you find a fight encounter you would automatically start at initiative disadvantage (or possibly a winded/fatigue debuff of sorts?) from being caught off-guard. This encourages the player to clear the area very well before simply exploring for events. Could possibly tie that option in with the Forest/Greenhouse or Tower NPCs - either in the sense of "Disturbances/Mana in the forest" or "Some old/archived/magical maps or notes she found" perhaps? Give that sense of "still getting to know the place, but getting more confident"

"Hunting" is the inverse - heavily weights towards fights even at lower presence levels but in exchange often finding tougher/rarer opponents than a standard patrol (maybe buffed even more than normal version?). Could maybe integrate it with [Cellar NPC]'s patrols in story in some way? Maybe needing to complete a few of them before she'd trust to share the locations of stuff she saw but couldn't clear for time's sake. Something for those players who simply cannot be satiated with *just* hunting strong beasts at night, they want a double course at extra risk! Or people who just dislike seeing "Low" but can't find that last fight encounter.

Way WAY overcomplicating it almost certainly, but its just kind of my attempt to take the general ideas of "Some kind of control when patrolling", "Some sense of growing more familiar with the area", and "Reducing/Removing the odds of a nothing outcome" and trying to think of how you could tie that into the world without it feeling too gamey like its some sort of natural progression that over time and with assistance of others you are no longer just patrolling - you KNOW this area now and are actively seeking things. I think that would really elevate the experience to the next level above others I have seen before. Anyways, just wanted to say again that the game is excellent and thanks for making it (and for reading this)

(1 edit) (+2)

Thanks for the support! Really appreciate it. And thanks for taking the time to leave some feedback.

Patrolling is a combat weighted exploration option already. You can also encounter events when hunting/gathering, and that option is less combat weighted. The exact math is the road danger is between 0 and 100, and you roll a number between 1 and 100 - a roll equal to or less than the current road danger results in a fight. Patrolling juices the road danger number by 40 or 50 (somewhere in there).

Just a quick note, it is unlikely that manual saves will be implemented. I'm pretty fond of the current save at the start of each day - and because there aren't any fail states in the game, there's not a lot of incentive to save scum. Who knows though, this may change closer to release.

The exact frequency of events is subject to change, especially as I get more of them made - but I >really< don't want events to happen every day, or even most days, as it really slows down the the game. Right now whenever you go out into the woods it makes a roll to see if you get an event - and if you don't get an event 2 times in a row, it'll make sure you get one on the third go.

Now, all that being said, you have good ideas there and some very reasonable suggestions. I will say that I'm getting started on the Winter season content right now, which places a much bigger emphasis on the patrol gameplay and being self-sufficient (merchants + travelers show up more rarely). A lot of tougher enemies show up in the winter as well.

But, I think you will enjoy the planned Spring gameplay. The inn will become a guild tavern for adventurers, and different job types / contracts will become available for the end-game gameplay loop. Basically you will get different options for the kinds of things you want to engage with when leaving the inn - and also send out adventuring parties to do jobs.

Thanks again, appreciate the feedback!

I keep patrolling, gather reagents and food but no sign of Willow. I got some of her bark and researched it completely. But she doesnt seem to be showing up. Any advice? I used an older save and I'm using 175

(1 edit) (+2)

You need to have the greenhouse built and heart tree fully researched. Once you have both, an encounter with the dryad will get her to give you a heart tree seed. Once you have that, plant it in the greenhouse and give it some time to grow.

If you think your save might be bugged, drop me a line on discord and I can check out the save file and figure out what broke :)

(+4)

Great game - the mechanics are really good. At a certain point of reputation are the Rookie parties supposed to not add more points?

(+1)

Thank you! All parties will keep adding reputation unless your reputation is maxed out. If that's not the case, its probably a bug! I will check it out.

(+2)

Ok yeah I noticed I'm not getting any points from rookies

(+2)

Good spot, I was able to reproduce the problem. It'll be fixed in the 1.8 build, thanks.

(+4)

This game has a whole lot of potential. I love the theme, mechanics, and characters. Once it comes to Steam, it might be the first NSFW game in my library.  I really can't say enough about it. Very solid.

If I have to come up with some sort of gripe, I'd only say I want more interaction between the characters (and the player). Probably in the form of events. I'd suggest maybe an event for the first time the player interacts with certain monsters or does specific actions. I feel like this would allow the characters more chances to express their personalities more.

But that's like, just my opinion man. Keep making awesome stuff.

(+4)

Thank you! And yeah, I agree. As I shift my focus from adding core mechanics, I'll be adding a lot more events. I really like writing events between the characters as well, so expect more of those for sure!

(+5)

Honestly this is such a good game on it's own that I completely forgot about NSFW aspects of it on my first playthrough. The art is great, the gameplay is fun, the story is interesting and the setting feels quite unique. I had a great time.

One small bit of feedback I can offer is - please consider adding a starting research as soon Late Night Reading option is unlocked. My dumb ass saw that there was only the exp option available, dismissed it entirely
and didn't do any research until late fall. It doesn't have to be anything big or important, just something small to prime the player to the idea that research can be done there.

(+5)

Thank you! Yeah that's a very good suggestion, and pretty easy to add.

(+1)

I came back to the game...and I forgot how to save.

(+1)

Game saves at the start of every day!

(+1)

Will it come to steam?

(+4)

Yes!

(+4)

i really like the game and the characters, everything is super good!

(+2)

Thank you, appreciate it!

(+3)

really waiting for the next update!
fall is one month from being over, got soldiers at 700 and im just missing two 750xp upgrades, the only quest im unable to complete is the dryad one, but im not sure if its completed or if her chance of appearing while hunting or scouting s really low, as she hasnt appeared for the last month

(+2)

Dryad just has a low chance of showing up. Once I get more content for the dryad in game, I'll increase her spawn rate.

(+1)

PLEASE add a gallery

A gallery is planned!

is there a prediction for which update it'll be added in

Gallery won't be for a while, likely towards the end of the alpha. Before then I'll be adding the ability to pick which scenes you are seeing instead of it always being random. That will be added within the next update or two.

kms

(+1)

hey, can i update to the latest version without losing my save file?

if so, where can i find the save?

(1 edit) (+2)

Yeah save's are all backwards compatible. If you want to backup your saves anyways, they are here: \AppData\Roaming\ForestInn\

(+1)(-1)

Love your game!you know there's a scene lucy says:

"...I know from experience.I'll have you know I've got very clever feet.

...maybe I'll show you sometime."

you know what am saying, add a footjob, like getting caught at night, then some foot movement or something else,

Non native English speaker, but you know what i mean  :)
(+1)

Haha, I know you what you mean.

how do i start a new playthrough?

Click on the start or fall start buttons on the main menu.

(1 edit) (+2)

i didn't play it yet. but the style and story reminds a lot of living with my sister : monochrome fantasy. which is the best game i've played in the genre. so i hope this one is gonna be as good if not better.

(+5)

I just created this account to praise this game, its kinda hard nowadays to get games of this quality and most importantly this depth, came for the NSFW and stayed for the gameplay and tech that you can employ in the DND style battles

Also if i may ask, I've only played for the first 10 days, so i'm sill a little green in the matter, but how can i save besides the auto-saving and how can i increase the desire of Lucy? Do i just have to take it slowly?

Also, is the main day OST an original song or is it from somewhere else? If so, where can i find it because I might just listen to it on a daily basis :D

(+2)

Thank you! The only saves are auto-saves at the start of each day, but it saves the last 3 days. If you want to back up your saves, they are the appdata/roaming/forestinn/ folder.

Increase Lucy's desire by getting to know her better, then eventually the flirt option will appear in the evening. Once you've built the Alchemy Bench it should be pretty fast.

The OST is entirely original music, and we should really look at getting it on spotify or something haha. If put it up somewhere, I'll mention it in an update post.

(+3)

Wow! Thank you for replying so quickly, have a nice day and I'll will keep following the progress of the updates to see what you can cook up next ;)

I recently broke up with my first girlfriend around like a month and a half ago it was a toxic relationship to say the least, she used me most of the time for my status and cash and I let her verbally abuse me and every time she couldn't get what she wanted from me she'd threatened me about her taking her own life until I eventually gave in, this is the first visual novel/dating sim game I played in a long time even during my previous relationship and even how devoid my faith in romance is anymore this game is giving color to my heart once more, I wish all the best to the developers and writers of this game, Lucy never took for granted whatever our guy did for her in a positive sense and she is always willing to make an effort to reciprocate those feelings thank you for giving birth to such a wonderful creation, we all need a girl like Lucy.

(+3)

I'm very sorry to hear you went through something like that. Sometimes life can really kick us in the balls. I hope things get better for you! Thanks for the kind words, they mean a lot. Glad you are enjoying the cozy game we made.

(+3)

I am going through burn out from video games, and yet somehow this game has gotten me to play it throughout the night. It checks a lot of boxes for me. Initially came from the NSFW scenes, but the setting and lore of the game enthralled me to stay. I even like the turn based combat, something I tend to avoid in video games. It must be because I’m a fan of table top RPGs and love rolling dice.

(+1)

Haha, yeah I'm table top rpg guy who loves dice, so I feel you. Happy to hear you like the game!

(+1)

Hi there Mooncatcher!
Is there any email, Discord id, Patreon, Twitter, etc link/s you could provide me to contact you for business purposes? ^^

(+1)

You can drop me a line on bluesky if you'd like: https://bsky.app/profile/goblinoneeye.bsky.social

(1 edit)

Thanks, I have followed you (https://bsky.app/profile/saikeystudios.com)! Please follow me back to be able to message you (your DMs are closed).

Ah sorry about that, didn't realize they were closed by default. Should be open now.

(+1)

Absolutely love this game, you got something real special brewing here!
Are there going to be any sex scenes with the Dryad in the future? And are we going to get any anal sex scenes?
I'd also suggest you implement a toggle between buying 1 and 5 or 10 units of food/alcohol/etc from merchants as it does get very spammy clicking each thing up to 50 times late game.

Keep up the good work!

(+1)

Thanks!

Dryad + Other NPC scenes are on the way. Adding them a little at a time. Still a bunch left to add for Lucy, Scout, and Ellie as well. There will be a variety of scenes, but I don't really have a planned list. I'll just keep adding scenes as I have time.

When you are in fall (in the current build) you buy items in bulk. There may be a toggle later on as well, but the way you interact with merchants is intended to change as the game progresses.

(+2)

I didn't think I'd say this, I liked it not even because of the eroticism, but because of the gameplay. I'm really looking forward to the update. Good luck with the development

(+3)

Thanks! Working very hard on the next big gameplay update, I'm hoping to have it out at the end of the week.

(+2)

hey there!I am a player from China. This game undoubtedly has a strong attraction to me, and I am fascinated by it. Thank you for creating such an excellent game! If there is a need for translation into Chinese in the later stage, I am honored to serve you!

(+2)

Thanks! I'd love to do some translations at some point, but we're just not there yet. When the opportunity comes up, I'll be all over it.

(+4)(-2)

i would like if it was possible to make her pregnant at some point in the game

No plans at the moment, but the exact scope isn't figured out yet. A lot of features still left to add.

I have a question, will there be a translation into Spanish at some point? If so, I would like to actively collaborate with the same.

No plans for translation at the moment, but not for lack of want. It'll be something I look at a little later in development when I understand the scope of things a bit better. Thanks for the interest though! Hopefully I can swing some other languages later on.

Thanks, next update will likely be the end of the week!

(+1)

It feels like it’s getting harder to finish the dryad’s quest with every version, she just almost never shows up when searching for reagents. Is there some hidden requirement…?

(1 edit) (+2)

No, you are actually completely right. The chances of her showing up have been reduced because she is intended to be a mid-game hire. Ironically she was the first NPC I added because I was getting her set up alongside events - but as I got Scout and Ellie added, the Dryad is now more or less where she is supposed to be. To give exact numbers, anytime after day 10, she has a guaranteed chance to show up every 4 events, but Scout and Ellie are given priority. Her exact frequency is not set in stone and I may adjust it further as I develop the mid game and get a better feel for where she falls inside that.

In the current version, her skill tree is basically empty while Scout's and Ellie's are in better shape, so I wanted to make sure people could get those two a little easier to test things out.

(+2)

Makes sense, thank you!

(+4)

I played through 177 days and loved every second. I really enjoyed the world building through the many dialog options. I talked to everyone as much as I could just to keep learning more about the world and characters. Incredible game and it's only the alpha! I will be following this for a long time.

(1 edit) (+3)

Thanks, that means a lot! There are a bunch of new characters and scenes in the works, so definitely stay tuned.

(+2)

Thanks for making this game! I love the art and chill atmosphere, gameplay is fun, and characters/story is interesting. I’m intrigued what’s coming in the future :)

(+3)

I'm very happy you like it! A whole bunch of stuff is being worked on. Next patch has a big focus on the companion characters, the first fall gameplay, and a bunch of quality of life changes like rolling autosaves. Should be out soon!

loving all the new content but ive noticed that enchanted meals increase lucys fracture even tho she said mana would help to reduce it. izat a bug or a feature? :)

when her fracture is in the 60s the same meal seemed to reduce her fracture... maybe the inn was too cold? so many plates to juggle!

(+1)

Yeah it was likely the cold. The way the cold works right now is just bad, but it's a placeholder. I'll be cleaning that up soon.

(+2)

A particularly unique masterpiece in the making, I think. The gameplay is actually fun, the world and the characters are interesting, and the art so far has been high-quality (and I love the tie-in with the worldbuilding via colour!)

If I could offer one major criticism, it would be that there's a lot of things that are very click-heavy or fall off later in the game. Story-wise, I was trying to finish the Dryad quest, and it was just days upon days skipping through actions and repetitive dialogue trying to trigger events. I assume I progressed a bit differently through than you expected and that's why I had that long slog, but it happened either way.

And for the gameplay as well. Once you reach a certain point, scale is off. Purchasing from the merchants is cumbersome and it would be nice to see automatic stocking, or a one-click option to fill to max inventory for every item (if there was a multi-buy option I didn't see it).

The scenes too -- they just seem to play at the same speed all the time, every time, and it wasn't obvious to me the first time I got one that it would progress on its own regardless of interaction. I tend to move through stuff quickly, and so I clicked a few times, saw the scene didn't change, and exited it because I thought that was it. It was only later on I realized the scenes did progress. It's also a pain when playing through it multiple times. Arrows (maybe after first play) so that you can move back and forward through the scene would be nice.

Ditto for cellar/greenhouse -- a lot of clicking has to be done and can get a little annoying for something that doesn't actually have much payoff. An upgrade that lets you queue and automatically harvest stuff would be cool. Longer term, though, I think the mechanic is cool, but it needs something to differentiate it from the merchant. Eg. growing special teas from seeds only available from killing bosses, guests that require special drinks that you can only make yourself,  production upgrade to brew potions. Something to give it its own niche and keep it relevant.

Another minor suggestion: more information on scenes (gallery, maybe) and quests. For an in-progress game, it is often difficult to tell when you've finished the available content. See e.g. above the difficulty with the Dryad quest -- I originally assumed it was also unfinished content or bugged because it triggered so rarely.

The above sounds like a lot of issues, but I don't mean it that way. I only write these super long rants about games I loathe or love, and this one is definitely the latter. I genuinely enjoyed it, and I'm excited to see where it goes because there's a lot of potential for growth here. There are more suggestions I could add, but I assume a lot of them (and maybe some of the ones I've given) are already planned, e.g. fleshing out non-Lucy characters more.

Caveat: played 0.8, not 0.9.

(+2)

Thanks for the feedback. A lot of the things you bring up here will be resolved over development. The gameplay in there right now is representative of summer, which is the first 90 days, but will change with each season.

Buying food + alcohol, etc one at a time forever would be awful. But its fine at the start. With each season will be new merchants and new focus. I know you can only give feedback on what's in front of you, so it's all good - but there will be a lot of quality of life improvements added.

Things like a gallery or better scene control are good suggestions but probably some of the last things to get added. That'll show up when it comes to polishing what's in there, but I've got a lot of features + content to add first.

(3 edits)

Hello, I've just downloaded 0.9 and when I load my save files from the previous version (v0.8), all of my below bar stats are fixed to lv1, no matter how much I try to increase it, and I also can't get access to the inn projects as well (I've already unlocked all of the facility). I'd very appreciate if you take a look at this problem.

I'm not really good at English since it wasn't my first language, so please point out any parts that you don't understand yet. Thank you.

(2 edits)

Thanks, I'll take a look.

Edit: I tested loading a maxed out restored inn save from 0.8 into 0.9 without issue. Did you use cheat engine or edit the save in any way ?

No. I didn't. In fact, I don't even know where the save files location is.

(1 edit)

Looking at the code nothing seems obvious, but I don't think I've ever tested that deep into year 2, so there may be bugs that crop up from extended play. I'll look into it this week and see if I can figure out what broke.

Anything beyond the first 90 days may have bugs that I just won't see yet. As development continues and the rest of the year gets fleshed out, I'm sure this kind of stuff will happen less.

Also I try to build in save converters with each version to bring forward older save files, but I can't promise they will always work. This early in development I'm constantly adding new features and adjusting the flow of the game, and sometimes that means removing or adding parts that conflict with earlier versions.

Update: About a week after I face this problem, now my stamina is affected too.

The stamina is not a bug. Being able to increase your stamina past 150 was the bug, it was fixed in the new version.

(1 edit) (+1)

I believe I located the problem, the newest version (0.92) should prevent similar issues from occurring going forward - though I'm not sure if it'll repair a damage save. I'll keep investigating.

(+1)

Don't have any issues with my save that I used since the beginning.

(+3)

played since 0.4 and this little game is so comfy and the updates are meaningful. first game I actually felt the need to pay for on this site.

Thanks, that means a lot. Hopefully you enjoy the future updates as much!

Scout has such pretty red eyes.

*Me glancing at the normal comments and comments in the update logs*

Yeahhh, I'd let her have a midnight snack. That's all. Nothing out of the ordinary here.

Yeah nothing to see here...

(+1)

WOW,I enjoyend your game,carry on!

Thanks!

(+2)

Really enjoyed this. Just got pulled into the game with the initial worldbuilding and intro. Plus the art is really nice.

I didn't realize how important clearing the roads were on progression on my first playthrough. Would love a UI indication on low resources. Lucy is great about reminders, but one too many times I ran out of food because I got distracted by something. Maybe a little warning symbol on the UI? Maybe even give it color once the player learns ritual magic.

I would love to help this team and this project. But I'm just some guy with a keyboard, not a game dev lol. So if there's a need for a nerd with spare time to burn, let me know.

(+1)

Glad you enjoyed it. The UI will get updates as development continues - having some kind of little animated or colored warning is a good idea.

Appreciate the desire to help haha. We're not looking for anyone right now, but who knows what the future holds. Thanks regardless!

(+3)

Honestly, this game is really good. I liked the concept and everything and might be one of the few games I've actually enjoyed playing in a while. 9/10 kudos.

Thank you!
